What is Wart Removal?

Wart and Verruca Removal

Everyone at some time in their life suffers from warts or verrucas; they are usually self-limiting and can resolve spontaneously.

They are caused by the Human Pappiloma Virus (HPV) and commonly occur in children and young adults. The virus usually enters the skin through defects in the outer covering layer, the epidermis.

Warts can vary in size and veruccas on the soles of the feet can be painful.

Common First Line Wart/Verruca Treatments

  • Over the counter preparations from the chemist...gels, creams, etc. This mode of treatment is commonly used first.
  • Cryotherapy, this is where liquid nitrogen is used to freeze the wart, multiple treatments are often required. This treatment is only suitable for small warts. Cryotherapy treatment is around 40% effective.
  • Recently a freezing preparation has been available over the counter from chemists and high street drug stores.

Wart and Verruca Removal methods at our clinic(especially good for resistive warts/veruccas)

  • Radio surgery: This is Selston Cosmetic Clinics preferred method of choice for wart and verucca removal.
  • It involves using high frequency radio waves that generate heat, which evaporate the wart or varucca. This advanced technology generates much less heat that other conventional methods, resulting in less scarring to the skin
  • Electrocautery: A popular method used by many clinics. It is performed using local anaesthetic, it is simple and inexpensive, however there is a tendency for slight scarring post procedure.
  • The heat from the cautery electrode simply destroys the verucca or wart and seals the blood vessel supplying it.
  • Laser Wart Removal: Our state of the art Laser System can selectively destroy the warts or verucca, without damaging the surrounding skin.
  • The laser works by sealing shut the blood vessels that supply the wart or verucca, which eventually dies. Compared to alternative treatments, laser can treat warts with remarkable safety and efficacy, even those warts that have become resistant to previous treatment.
